1. The Maybelline Story ...and the Spirited Family Dynasty Behind It (Large Print 16pt) - Bettie PH.D. Youngs, Sharrie Williams

Largeprint (Paperback) Our price: 24.99  - Click book title for availability and further details

In 1915, when a kitchen stove fire singed his sister Mabel's lashes and brows, Tom Lyle Williams watched in fascination as she performed a ''secret of the harem'' - mixing petroleum jelly with coal dust and ash from a burnt cork and apply it to her lashes and brows. Mabel's simple beauty trick ignited Tom Lyle's imagination and he started what would become a billion - dollar business, one that remains a viable American icon after nearly a century. He name it Maybeline in her honor.

Throuhout the 20th century, the Maybeline Company inflated, collapsed, endured, and thrived in tandem witht he nation's upheavals - as did the family that nurtured it. Setting up shop first in Chicago, Williams later, to avoid unwanted scrutiny of his private life, cloistered himself behind the gates of his Rudolph Valentino Villa and ran his empire from a distance. Now after nearly a century of silence, this true story celebrates the life of an American entrepreneur, man whose vision rocketed him to success along with the woman held in his orbit, Evelyn Boecher - who became his lifelong fascintion and muse.

Captivated by her ''roaring charisma,'' he affectionately called her the ''real Miss Maybelline'' and based many of his advertising campaigns on the woman she represented: commandingly beautiful, hard - boiled and daring. Evelyn masterminded a life of vanity, but would fall prey to fortune hunters and a mysterious murder that even today remains unsolved. A fascinating and inspiring story of ambition, luck, secrecy - and surprisingly, above all, love and forgiveness, a tale both epic and intimate, alive with the clash, the hustle, the music, and dance of American enterprise.

2. Carrying Fire A Memoir by Evelyn B. Yohner - Evelyn B. YohnerRuth De Jong

Largeprint (Paperback) Our price: 24.99  - Click book title for availability and further details

The era of narratives in which missionaries followed God’s calling to remotest lands are necessarily dwindling away as a new generation of missionaries stands on the shoulders of these pioneers, and technology redefines how missionary endeavor is accomplished. These stories are like rare pearls, collected from a way of “doing” missions no longer done, when intrepid men and women sacrificed everything to obey God’s voice. Such is the story of Art and Evy Yohner.

Evy shares the wonder, joy, and heartaches of their journey as they followed God’s call to “carry their fire,” their passion for God and the lost, to Suriname, South America, to find and take the Gospel to the lost tribe of Akuriyos, and ultimately to an international ministry of teaching, encouragement, and support to other missionaries. Evy details the struggles and humor of adapting to life in the jungle, a new culture, and raising their young daughter, while making expeditions deep into the jungle in search of the Akuriyos. Through Art’s gift of photography, they capture their love for the people God had called them to seek out in His name. Their experiences in the jungle serve as the “proving ground” for the ministry to which God would later call Art & Evy, carrying the fire of their passion for Him for the rest of their lives.

Evy’s narrative is a loving dedication to her dear Art, and a tribute to God’s love, power, and provision, as well as a moment in history in which humble people did humble things to the glory of God.

Evy Bio

Evy Yohner grew up in West Virginia, Virginia, and Maryland, meeting her future husband, Art, when her family lived at Aberdeen Proving Ground. Receiving Christ as Savior soon after marrying, Art and Evy felt the call of God to commit their lives to serving Him: “Lord, Anything, Anytime, Anywhere, at Any Cost.” Their commitment and passion for God took them to full time service in Suriname, South America, and then to minister internationally with World Team, and eventually begin Art Yohner Missions Ministries (AYMMI).

Evy is now retired and lives in Bradenton, FL, less than a mile from her daughter, Ruthi, and her family, and is a great-grandmother of four. She originally began writing her story for her grandchildren, but her many friends encouraged her to collect and share her adventures. She maintains a ministry of encouragement and counsel, and continues to write and share her insights gleaned from a lifetime of commitment to God.

3. The Pebble and the Avalanche How Taking Things Apart Creates Revolutions (Large Print 16pt) - Moshe Yudkowsky

Largeprint (Paperback) Our price: 29.99  - Click book title for availability and further details

This book explains how to understand, create, and apply revolutions in business and technology. This book provides ideas, methods, and examples and shows you how to use them to create useful and exciting innovations. ''Taking things apart creates revolutions'' is the simple, one-line answer, but the more I looked into this relatively simple idea the more rich, the more interesting, and the more fun it became. I hope you'll enjoy the rest of this book as I guide you through the details. The main focus of the book is on business and technology. The ideas in this book apply across a wide range of activities; I've included discussions about government and economics, but have left out any mention of medicine, health care, or religion.
