After a grizzly kills his pa, Zach struggles to survive a cold and brutal winter alone. After killing a rouge grizzly and fighting hostile Indians on his own, he becomes known as Grizzly Killer and is respected throughout the West. Along with his dog, Jimbo, whom the Indians call the Great Medicine Dog, he finds Running Wolf, an injured Ute warrior, and together they fight off a hostile war party. They rescue two Shoshone sisters from the brutality of a French trapper and take them as wives. After Zach saves Running Wolf’s beautiful sister, Shining Star, he is expected to take her as a second wife, but his Christian beliefs conflict with the Indian traditions, and he struggles within himself to accept the Indian ways. Set in the rugged Uinta Mountains of Northern Utah, this is a story of survival against nature and hostile Indians and the clash of cultures between the Indians and mountain men that were the first to brave this uncharted wilderness, seeking their fortune from the pelts of the beaver.

108. The Life of St Shenouda Translation of the Arabic Life - Abba Wissa

Largeprint (Paperback) Our price: £12.00  - Click book title for availability and further details

St Shenouda (Shenoute) is one of the fifth century's most renowned Egyptian monastic leaders. During his monastic leadership his community grew to around four thousand monks and nuns. His spiritual ministry and miraculous works extended beyond the walls of his monastery to surrounding villages. He is known for his large library of Coptic Christian writings that are scattered today in museums and libraries all over the world. He did not gain much attention from the western writers of the time such as Jerome, Palladius, and John Cassian, because of his patriotism to the Coptic language and culture which dissociated him from many Greek and Latin writers. His life comes to us in Coptic in both dialects, Sahidic and Bohairic. This translation of the Arabic life of St Shenouda is from the edition by the French Coptologiest Amelineau. It is believed that this Arabic life is a translation from the Sahidic Coptic life, sometime in the seventh century.

109. You Could Be A Star! A Happy Birthday Book! - Penelope Weigand

Largeprint (Paperback) Our price: £9.20  - Click book title for availability and further details

This is a book of encouragement, meant for kids, but with a lesson many adults need to hear. It is a birthday book about making dreams come true, and whether or not it happens to be your birthday, this book is a perfect book for you, if you happen to have dreams that you dream will come true. Written by the award winning author, attorney and former teacher, Penelope Dyan, this 'learn to read' book uses word recognition, word repetition and rhyme, as it not only helps kids with reading skills, but also teaches a very important lesson about life. Dyan wants her readers to know that while life may be meant for the young, the old are never too old to dream; and if a kid can carry this life lesson throughout life, life will be a much better experience, and a kid will never grow old, because no one is ever too told to dream. Books are places where dreams can be found, where thoughts can come to be, where imaginations can soar. If a book can begin a dream, anything is possible. And then, when you are all finished reading this book, look for the free music video that goes with this book on the Bellissimavideo YouTube channel and let your dreams soar.

110. Rommel And Caporetto (Large Print 16pt) - Eileen WilksJohn Wilks

Largeprint (Paperback) Our price: £24.99  - Click book title for availability and further details

The Austro - German attack at Caporetto in 1917 produced a full scale breakthrough which forced the Italian armies to retreat from near the Austrian frontier to within twenty miles of Venice. Young Lieutenant Rommel had the good fortune to be part of one of the German units which led the attack on the Italian positions. The masterly German plan carried out by some of the best German and Austrian troops immediately established a war of movement which offered fine opportunities to ambitious young officers. No one made greater use of these opportunities than Erwin Rommel.Rommel's own account of the action has been translated into English but, until now, there has been no satisfactory work in English covering the wider aspects of the Battle of Caporetto which are an essential background for an understanding of his dramatic exploits. This book, by the authors of the acclaimed The British Army in Italy 1917 - 1918, is based largely on official histories and documents, and the records of Rommel and his commanding officer in Italy. In addition to being a thorough and authoritative description of the overall battle, Rommel and Caporetto gives a fascinating insight into the qualities that this superb soldier was to display to such devastating effect against the Allies during the Second World War.

112. Book to the Future - a manifesto for book liberation - Simon Worthington

Largeprint (Paperback) Our price: £5.00  - Click book title for availability and further details

The Book Liberation Manifesto is an exploration of publishing outside of current corporate constraints and beyond the confines of book piracy. We believe that knowledge should be in free circulation to benefit humankind, which means an equitable and vibrant economy to support publishing, instead of the prevailing capitalist hand-me-down system of Sisyphean economic sustainability. Readers and books have been forced into pirate libraries, while sales channels have been monopolised by the big Internet giants which exact extortionate fees from publishers. We have three proposals. First, publications should be free-at-the-point-of-reading under a variety of open intellectual property regimes. Second, they should become fully digital - in order to facilitate ready reuse, distribution, algorithmic and computational use. Finally, Open Source source software for publishing should be treated as public infrastructure, with sustained research and investment. The result of such robust infrastructures will mean lower costs for manufacturing and faster publishing lifecycles, so that publishers and publics will be more readily able to afford to invent new futures

114. In the Hour of Victory The Royal Navy at War in the Age of Nelson (Large Print 16pt) - Sam Willis

Largeprint (Paperback) Our price: £26.99  - Click book title for availability and further details

Between 1794 and 1815 the Royal Navy repeatedly crushed her enemies at sea in a period of military dominance that equals any in history. When Napoleon eventually died in exile, the Lords of the Admiralty ordered that the original dispatches from seven major fleet battles - The Glorious First of June (1794), St Vincent (1797), Camperdown (1797), The Nile (1798), Copenhagen (1801), Trafalgar (1805) and San Domingo (1806) - should be gathered together and presented to the Nation. These letters, written by Britain's admirals, captains, surgeons and boatswains and sent back home in the midst of conflict, were bound in an immense volume, to be admired as a jewel of British history. Sam Willis, one of Britain's finest naval historians, stumbled upon this collection by chance in the British Library in 2010 and soon found out that only a handful of people knew of its existence. The rediscovery of these first - hand reports, and the vivid commentary they provide, has enabled Willis to reassesses the key engagements in extraordinary and revelatory detail, and to paint an enthralling series of portraits of the Royal Navy's commanders at the time. In a compelling and dramatic narrative, In the Hour of Victory tells the story of these naval triumphs as never before, and allows us to hear once more the officer's voices as they describe the battles that made Britain great.

120. A Little Book of Pleasures (Large Print 16pt) - William Wood

Largeprint (Paperback) Our price: £19.99  - Click book title for availability and further details

A delightful anecdotal collection! In these days of 24 hour news many of us may feel smothered under an avalanche of anxiety, despondency or at best choking with rage over national and world events. Grand passions apart, however, there is still much to enjoy. The small pleasures of life lie all around us. They might be found in a state of mind, in the touch of a familiar object such as a favourite wooden spoon, or they may be found in fleeting observations: a baby's smile, the sudden appearance of a stag in your path; or they may be physical pleasures like sucking the wet flesh of a ripe mango or the aroma of coffee spilling out on to the pavement on a cold morning. In a mad and greedy world it is these small pleasures that keep us sane, and dare we admit it, happy. Told with wry humour and a gentle, sometimes quirky style slightly reminiscent of a bygone era, Wood's collection contains a mixture of description and observation with a smattering of autobiographical incident. Wood has lived in many places of the world, is well travelled and well read, with a keen sense of enjoyment in what he sees and experiences, and a talent for bringing that visually to the mind of his reader. The short, usually self - contained pieces make wonderful cameos both for those who do their reading in snatches, and those who will want to devour his stories in one sitting. William Wood has led a nomadic life and his friends and relatives are far flung. He now lives and writes in Sussex when he is not visiting his children in France, Rutland and Cumbria or his in - laws in Norway and Slovakia. The diaries he keeps on these visits occasionally give him local colour and ideas for his stories. His short stories have been read on the BBC World Service and included in a number of magazines and anthologies. His first published novel, No Time, was brought out by Babesh/Ryan in 2003 and his next novel, Passing Wind has been shortlisted for an Amazon prize.
