5. No Cage Contains a Stare That Well (Large Print 16pt) - Matt Robinson

Largeprint (Paperback) Our price: 16.99  - Click book title for availability and further details

The legendary Terry Sawchuk is said to have kept parts of himself in jars: one for teeth, one for bone chips, and another for his appendix. no cage contains a stare that well is jarring in much the same way. Each poem in this collection is a self - contained vessel in which a distinct bit of our national game - a player or a fight, a save or a goal, an injury or a regret - is preserved; mementos cross - cut into countless sheets of ice. Often dark and brooding, this book offers a league of gloomy characters: a spiteful Zamboni driver and a nearly blinded beer - leaguer; a maimed minor - hockey coach and that over - bearing hockey dad you've heard in the rink. These are poems about hockey - shifting their way through the game, its characters, images, and passions. no cage contains a stare that well is like an impossible glove save in overtime - exulting in the game while examining the darker, musty corners of its locker rooms. But these poems speak to life off - ice as well: to how we know what we know, how we feel what we feel, and how we win or lose.

7. Une saison en enfer / Yon sezon matchyavèl - Arthur Rimbaud

Largeprint (Paperback) Our price: 8.95  - Click book title for availability and further details

19th century French Symbolism/Haitian Creole translations/Languages

This book offers Arthur Rimbaud’s tumultuous prose poem of 1873, 'Une saison en enfer', ‘A Season in Hell,’ in the French original with the Haitian Creole translation, 'Yon sezon matchyavèl,' on facing pages. This powerful literary text transposes the creative and violent love affair of the younger Arthur Rimbaud with the older and married Paul Verlaine into whirling prose poetry that is piercing, hallucinatory and mysterious. Written at the age of 19 while recovering from a gun-shot wound inflicted by the jealous Verlaine, the work reveals the traumas of his personal life and it exposes the contradictions, genius and madness of France, Europe and colonialism in the late nineteenth century. This volume also provides J. Lyonel Desmarattes’ adaptation of Rimbaud’s beloved poem, 'Le bateau ivre', 'The Drunken Boat,' as 'Bato sou a,' which, at the age of 17, he sent to Verlaine in a letter of introduction. Rimbaud’s writing embodies the power of creativity as the ultimate response to pain, alienation and confusion.

This book provides the French original and the Haitian Creole translation on facing pages in order to give readers the means to compare the languages and to see how the cultural and idiomatic expressions in the source text were rendered in the Haitian Creole target text.

This volume is designed for students, scholars and lovers of French and Haitian Creole and the bilingual format is designed for accelerated study.

Benjamin Hebblethwaite is Assistant Professor in Haitian Creole and Haitian Studies at the University of Florida.

Jacques Pierre is Lecturer in Haitian Creole at Florida International University and Director of FIU’s Haitian Summer Institute.

15. Paper Radio Poems by (Large Print 16pt) - Damian Rogers

Largeprint (Paperback) Our price: 16.99  - Click book title for availability and further details

This is a fractured memoir, steeped in the language and images Rogers was raised on: Kipling's Just So Stories, Dorothy Parker quips, song lyrics, Beat diatribes, the visual gymnastics of cummings, Victorian children's stories, fairy tales, and the crumbling beauty and very real danger of downtown Detroit.
Rogers' writing is closely related to the lyrical tradition, though she's also interested in narrative, mystery, memory, and the possibilities for language to create an emotional effect on a reader. Rogers is drawn to the nature of utopian impulses - from nineteenth century spiritual movements to 1960s radicalism to our hopes for Obama - and the ways these impulses break down.
Research subjects include: The Shakers, John Sinclair, the MC5, communes, hippie cookbooks, shamanism, Surrealism, Detroit and Joseph Cornell.

17. Against the Hard Angle Poems (Large Print 16pt) - Matt Robinson

Largeprint (Paperback) Our price: 16.99  - Click book title for availability and further details

The two sections that comprise matt robinson's fourth full - length volume of poetry, Against the Hard Angle, though disparate in terms of form - the first consisting primarily of a long poem; the other a collection of shorter lyrical pieces - nonetheless share a common concern with ideas of relationship and its examination. At their core, these are poems about where we stand in relation to the rest of our various worlds. In the collection's opening section, the eponymous (and 2009 Malahat Review Long Poem Award winning) ''against the hard angle'' steadily develops a grudging momentum, all the while searching for a way to articulate loss, in the end becoming a kind of meditative catalogue of relationship breakdown and divorce. The second section takes as its immediate subject matter a different sort of relationship altogether. Having returned home after nearly a decade elsewhere, these are poems that reference robinson's native Halifax, NS, more specifically and vividly than in his previous work; these are lines with ''the near / magical pull of some deep - seeded magnet now spinning, / we'd guess, completely / and fully out of control - a crazed, elemental / ballet.'' Part extended love song to and for a city and part meditation on what a city can both say to and about us, Against the Hard Angle uses some of Halifax's most and least famous places as jumping off points for a stop - and - start lyrical tour of eastern Canada's largest urban centre, a sometimes fraught journey that leaves us ''all tendon - tensed, / against impact, near white - knuckled to / breakage.''

18. Amazing Chesed Living a Grace-Filled Judaism (Large Print 16pt) - Rabbi Rami Shapiro

Largeprint (Paperback) Our price: 16.99  - Click book title for availability and further details

The question isn't whether grace - God's love freely given - is there for you in Judaism.
The question is, do you have the courage to accept it?
Ask almost any Jew whether grace is a central concept in Judaism and an essential element in living Jewishly, and, chances are, their answer will be ''no.'' But that's the wrong answer. This fascinating foray into God's love freely given offers the reader a way to answer that question in the affirmative.
Drawing from ancient and contemporary, traditional and non - traditional Jewish wisdom, this book reclaims the idea of grace in Judaism in three ways:
It offers a view of God that helps the reader understand what grace is, why grace is, and how grace manifests in the world.
It sets forth a reading of Judaism that is grace - filled: an understanding of creation, Shabbat and other Jewish practices from a grace - filled perspective.
It challenges the reader to be embraced and transformed by grace, and to live life as a vehicle for God's grace, thereby fulfilling the promise of being created in God's image and likeness.
